Digital publications by the NDR Bigband

The NDR Bigband, Hamburg’s Radio Jazz Orchestra (»one of the most inspiring European big bands«) asked us to develop an album cover design concept for their newly founded digital label.
The albums feature their take on the music of either a stand out (classical) composer or genre/concept.
The briefing asked for a design that made it easy to recognize the covers as a series, yet open enough to suit the music/composer, and it was supposed to stand out from the corporate NDR design.
We developed dynamic minimalistic portraits of the composers in combination with a series of patterns that were inspired among others by elements of the music’s score or the time it was created.

We did three cover designs so far:

»Pulp Friction« (Kalle Kalima’s take on the music of Pulp Fiction)
»Walking with Igor – A suite for Soloist Orchestra« (conductor Geir Lysne’s take on Stravinsky)
