A small Flatstock retrospective
The first post-Corona Flatstock is now a few days old, so it’s just the right time to add some pictures.
For the third time, we met at the Heiligengeistfeld in the Reeperbahn Festival Village. With 29 artists/studios, the field of participants was bigger than it had been for a long time. A very successful mix of new faces and established forces.
In addition to an overwhelming amount of posters, artprints and small, fine printed matter, we at Spiegelsaal had thought of a few additional programme items to round off the whole thing.
For example, there were 2 hours of live screen printing every day. Nothing explains screen printing better than simply being there, watching the process and, if you wish, wielding the squeegee yourself. Thanks to Luis Schenk from Updownprints.de for his commitment. We should do it again.
On Saturday there was the full programme. Matthias Hufnagl kicked things off. The music journalist, rock’n’roll DJ and freelance author read from his new book “Afterglow” at our booth and spun some vinyl discs (some of which he made himself). Great fun.
But with out a question THE highlight was Blood Red Shoes‘ accoustic gig at our booth. Working with BRS is always a great experience. Fast, friendly communication, absolutely reliable and pleasantly down to earth. Still, we were very pleased that they immediately agreed to our request for a small gig. Not a matter of course, as they are in the middle of their European tour, came directly from Amsterdam and had an official gig at the Reeperbahnfestival on the same evening.
At the booth they played four acoustic songs and took the time to sign posters and records and chat with the fans. Very fucking nice!
Being the professionals we are, Torsten and I forgot to take a photo with the band. Jaja…. Next time….
On Sunday, all the artists that were still in town (and fit enough) went onboard the MS Christa, for a cruise through Hamburg harbour and proper drinks while being serenaded by Hamburg’s (?) best cover band BOY DIVISION.
Even though it requires a lot of organizing in advance, we will try to present extra programm during the Flatstock next year as well. Wait and see!
In the meantime, the poster family moves on. Next major stops are Vienna (08 – 09 December 2023) and Groningen (18 – 20 January 2024). See you around.
