‘The Art Of Tonight’ – Calendar

The 2020 Velomax Gig Poster Calendar.

Velomax, the company that runs two of Berlin’s biggest venues, the @velodromberlin_official_ and the @maxschmelinghalle_official , releases a calendar as a means of promotion for the third year in a row now. The 2018 edition featured great portraits of music fans taken at both venues. The 2019 edition took an equally impressive photographic look behind the scenes of both venues, showing construction work, stage hands, riggers etc.

For 2020, Art Director Alex Labes (who also did the swell cover, that includes 2 spot colors, UV varnish and blind embossing) came up with the idea to let us create 12 gig posters for bands/artists, that played in the venues during 2019.
It was done the proper gig poster way, management contact first, final approval later. So in more than a way, these are legit gig posters.
Some of them might end up as screen printed posters later this year.

We started to work on the first motives in March.
In the end, we did 17 motives, as some bands had to cancel or postpone their tours.
All in all, it was a great working experience. Being around in the wonderful world of gig posters for quite some time, we expected way more problems regarding approvals.
